About Lotgenootje
The idea
Marien Jansen (25) has a 5-year background in healthcare. As a social worker, he came into contact with the concept of deep pressure stimulation through weighted products, which many people are familiar with through a weighted blanket.
In his role, Marien personally experienced the positive effects of deep pressure stimulation on clients and residents, but felt he missed a unique and original product beyond the blankets. After a period of research and discussions with specialists about deep pressure stimulation, Marien came up with the idea of applying it to stuffed animals.
The beginning of Lotgenootje
After retiring from healthcare, Marien started market research and conducted research into current suppliers of weighting products.
The goal was to discover a niche within the world of weighting products, but also to create a unique, lasting and original product.
After several test periods in families' homes, in healthcare settings, and by specialists, it was decided to produce the product in the form of a cuddly toy that can be used by both children and adults!
The design
The development and unique design of the Lotgenootje plush toys are the result of a thoughtful and feedback-driven approach. Initially, the decision was made to focus on two designs: a bear and a dog, to keep the startup simple and focused. This decision proved successful, given the positive feedback we received on the first versions of these plush toys.
One key aspect that emerged was the even distribution of the weight, a unique selling point that sets our cuddly toys apart from other products on the market.
Our mission
We want to help as many people as possible feel calmer, safer, and more relaxed. With Lotgenootje, we offer comfort and support in a gentle, natural way, without pills or complicated devices. How did the name come about?
Coming up with a name is always a challenge. During the initial brainstorming sessions, several names were considered, but Marien wanted to come up with a name that had meaning and fit the purpose of the weighted stuffed animals and the company itself.
That's why we chose the name "Lotgenootje" (Lotgenootje), which indicates that our cuddly toys are more than just a hug, but a true companion and buddy with a weighty love. Our slogan, "Where love weighs heavily," reflects this philosophy. 🤎
